The Western Art Contest and Exhibit was created to recognize and reward the many outstanding student artists in the San Antonio area who are interested in western art. The contest began in 1996 with only 7 entries and has grown substantially to have 353 entries in 2007.
The annual Western Art Contest & Exhibit will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2008, in the Hall of Fame located on the Freeman Coliseum grounds. The top 50 pieces will be exhibited at the 2009 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The top25 pieces will be auctioned to the highest bidder, with each student artist receiving the full amount of the winning bid in the form of a college scholarship award. Those whose work is among the top 50 will be invited to apply for a scholarship to the three week Western Art Academy at the prestigious Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas.
To be eligible to enter the contest, each student must meet ALL of the following requirements:
· Be a high school student
· Be enrolled in an accredited high school (public, private, or home school)
· Live in Bexar County or a surrounding county
Students are limited to one entry, must turn in all appropriate forms, and comply with all the rules and regulations set forth by the Western Art Committee.
If ALL eligibility requirements listed below are met, downloadable forms are provided below. Please complete all entry forms below and submit them along with the artwork entry on December 12th, between 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the Hall of Fame.
