LONGHORNS VISIT THE ALAMO
The first cattle drive through
downtown San
Antonio since 1999 took place the last Saturday in
January as the kick off to the 2008 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Rodeo
officials, volunteers, downtown merchants and city officials were on hand to
greet the longhorns and cowboys as they made their way down Houston Street on a
sunny morning. 35 Longhorns from the YO Ranch in Kerrville, TX were trucked
to San Antonio
and about 11 a.m. the drovers called out the cattle and began their one mile
walk down Houston Street. The crowd was huge and the longhorns appeared to be
enjoying their appearance. A chuck wagon breakfast was prepared for all the
rodeo officials and guests to complete the morning and get everyone into the
spirit of rodeo.
